I've been administering local elections and serving my community in Shasta County's Clerk and Elections department for the past seventeen years. Now, I'm running to be your County Clerk and Registrar of Voters.
Finding my passion
When I started my career in the Shasta County Clerk/Elections Office as extra-help in April of 2008, my intent was to work as extra-help until I could find a more permanent position. That temporary job soon became a curious joy, and then a passion to become the next County Clerk in Shasta County.
Throughout my career, I have worked or supervised every position in both the Clerk and Elections Office in Shasta County. Working for a “mid-sized” county in California, I was provided unique opportunities that allowed me to gain both the technical and leadership skills that are critical to be successful as a Registrar of Voters. I have a working knowledge of the complexities and technical skills needed to complete many of the diverse tasks of an elections office. This knowledge, along with my “can do” attitude, allows me to lead a team with diverse skills that work together.
In my role as Assistant County Clerk/Registrar of Voters for the last 6 years, I have been involved with the direct oversight of more than 14 elections. Preparing for each countywide election requires extensive knowledge of complexities of state and federal laws, project management oversight, budget and financial oversight, and the execution of many detail-oriented tasks. In Shasta County, this directly involves logistics and management of more than 115,000 registered voters, numerous candidates, dozens of ballot types, 60+ voting locations, 400+ poll workers and volunteers, 19 full time staff, and dozens of extra-help staff.
An emphasis on transparency
In the last few years especially, elections work has been scrutinized and highlighted on every level. This has had a direct impact on our local elections department and has tremendously increased the workload and oversight. I have supervised an increase in Public Records Act requests by more than 1200% and an overall increase in public interest of our processes. I support public interaction and observation in elections and have adapted our processes and planning to better ensure all interested community members may observe while ensuring our work is conducted in an efficient and accurate manner.
Leading through change and transition
In 2023, I managed and implemented 5 major projects in a 6-month timeline as directed by the Board of Supervisors. The success of these projects is a direct reflection of my leadership and my ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and partners.
In November 2023, I unexpectedly had to take complete control of managing the office and the administration of the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election while our long time County Clerk/ Registrar of Voters was out on medical leave. My experience and knowledge allowed our team to adapt and run a successful election. After the County Clerk retired, my role shifted as the Board of Supervisors appointed another individual to become the County Clerk/Registrar of Voters during a Presidential General Election. My commitment to our team was unwavering. I provided training to the appointee and supported the staff through another significant shift in the transition of leadership.
Looking ahead
As the opportunity arises for another transition in leadership at the Clerk and Elections office, I am ready and capable to take on this position, bring stability to our team, and ensure integrity and accuracy in our local elections. I am grateful for the community support that has surrounded me and I would be honored to have your vote.
A bit more about me, personally
I live with my husband Corey and children in Redding. I truly love this beautiful community we live in; it reminds me of the small towns in Idaho and Montana where I was raised. Shasta County became my home 18 years ago when my husband and I decided to raise our kids near his hometown. If you ask me what I do in my spare time, I will likely mention work. If you really get to know me, you will find that I love to laugh, bake cookies, coach volleyball, and spend time with my family.
